Camley Street Masterplan Draft - 2021

A design team lead by architects Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios (selected with input from the community) has created the draft masterplan for the area. It’s based on the shared vision, and feedback collected from the community during live and online consultation events last year.

The masterplan sets out to deliver the homes and employment space in a number of different buildings across the two sites. Alongside the new buildings will be different types of open spaces that all local residents will be able to use. Improvements will be made to Camley Street and new green spaces will help to make sure that the new development responds sensitively to the existing neighbourhoods of Elm Village, Agar Grove and Maiden Lane.

At the north end of the site, nearest the Agar Grove and Maiden Lane estates, are a series of buildings containing homes, including many of the family homes. There will also be green spaces and places for children to play.

People will be able to walk and cycle through to Agar Grove, but it will not be possible to drive through. The buildings will look out onto a new square. The ground floor will have room for creative and makers businesses, shops and cafes.  In the future we hope people will be able to access the proposed new Camden Highline through this square.

The southern end of the site near Elm Village will have a big new public green space facing Barker Drive. This park will benefit from lots of daylight during the day and all local residents will be able to use it. The surrounding buildings will contain a mix of homes and businesses, with some shops and cafes at ground floor. The buildings with businesses will face a shared yard, and more industrial businesses will have their own vehicle access along the railway, keeping larger vehicles away from people who are walking and cycling.
